Tune for Tuesday

What day is it…

Yes, it’s Tune for Tuesday. This week we have Professor Green!

Professor Green othwise known as Stephen Manderson. He started rapping by chance as he realised he was good at freestyling whilst at a friends house, from this point his passion for rap escalated. Stephen went on to win the inaugural Jump Off MySpace rap battle tournament in July 2008 before getting a record deal.

Stephen’s nickname is an indication of his past. He used to sell weed when he was younger earning him the name ‘Green’ (AKA weed) and ‘Professor’ came from the fact that he’s extremely intelligent.

I love his style, his lyrics are witty and hilarious. I couldn’t choose just one song (as you can see this is becoming a regular pattern) so here are three of my favorite tracks!

‘Upper Clapton’ (Everyone loves a bit of classical rap), ‘Monster‘ and ‘At you convenience‘.

Bits & Bobs

This is evening I have been procrastinating. Instead of organizing my mountain of letters and various other small tasks I headed to Facebook (the procrastination tool you can always rely on). Eureka I struck gold. In the News Feed was this video ‘Why we have too few women leaders’, it got me thinking. I think Sheryl Sandberg gives a good account of where modern society is going and also fights the corner for males two as this problem affects both genders.

I thought she gave a detailed account of women who want careers and also stay at home mothers, it has motivated me to push forward but has also given me an insight in the problems that are faced by men in our changing society, which until this video I was naive to think didn’t exist. I have since researched this topic further as this video is from December 2010 but I strongly recommend every body watch this.

Tune for Tuesday

It’s that time and (like last week) I’m treating you to another double dose of Tune for Tuesday!

First off we have DJ, musician and music producer Theo Keating, also known as Touché or the more commonly known Fake Blood. Theo started off as one half of The Wiseguys and has had ever growing success, producing great music used in both films and television adverts such as Mitsubishi and Budweiser.

Theo is now focusing on Fake Blood making sensational remixes of classic chart toppers for example Noah And The Whale – “L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N., however he is well know for being a perfectionist and admitted to Annie Mac that

“Instead of doing one track and then chucking it out and then doing another, I kind of gather them like a big load of eggs, alien eggs and then they’re all done.” Fake Blood on Annie Mac’s Radio One Show, Friday 12th August 2011.

Brilliant quote? I think so. Theo has a new track called ‘Deep Red‘ and a new EP is due to be released shortly, sadly no date confirmed yet, however this is not the track I will be sharing with you on Tune for Tuesday. OH NO. Instead I will be sharing an old track called ‘Mars’ that I adore. I promise that you will have it on repeat.

The second track I have for you, I first heard on Annie Mac’s show (I think you can sense that I’m her fan). Moby is fantastic in his own right but some of the remixes are even better. This specific track ‘Lie Down In Darkness‘ is mixed by Photek. It’s a truly beautiful and moody remix and is such a pleasure to listen too. I hope you enjoy it.

Socially Acceptable

Brilliant viral, I’m still shocked that this was filmed on a mobile phone. Nokia must be very proud of its product and its world record.

‘Gulp’ is a short film created by Sumo Science at Aardman, depicting a fisherman going about his daily catch. Shot on location at Pendine Beach in South Wales, every frame of this stop-motion animation was shot using a Nokia N8, with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics. The film has broken a world record for the ‘largest stop-motion animation set’, with the largest scene stretching over 11,000 square feet.

Just found this amazing classic F1 Lotus in all its separate components. I love these types of graphic images, you get an in depth look at how much is involved in making these cars.

Tune for Tuesday

I am spoiling you on this week’s Tune for Tuesday because I couldn’t chose between these two songs. A double dose of musical goodness coming your way!

Air France is a band from Gothenburg, Sweden and is composed of two individuals, Joel Karlsson and Henrik Markstedt. If you want to have the perfect sound track to a chilled out and breezy summer Air France has it all. Sadly their album is not available in the UK, which is the second time this has happened to me in one week (the other artist being Selah Sue, last weeks Tune for Tuesday); it is a good job in am going to France next month so I can exploit the EU’s music library. On a positive note, Air France do have an EP on itunes called ‘No Way Down‘.

Our second Tune for Tuesday is by the more widely known The Chemical Brothers. I first heard this on Annie Macs radio one show and had it on repeat for longer than necessary. Their latest album ‘Further‘, which includes the track below called ‘Swoon‘, is now available on itunes.

Socially Acceptable

Socially acceptable, more like socially unacceptable. The Old Spice guy has been challenged to a duel! What was Italian Fabio thinking, no one messes with Old Spice guy.

This duel got me thinking, who will replace the Old Spice guy when he gets too old?

AND

How many old Old Spice guys were there?

Something tells me there will be more battles to come.
